We lucked out with the weather on the first day, however the following day had scattered showers. Searching for a covered place to paint en plein air, one of them suggested Wawel's Arcaded Courtyard. The courtyard was originally designed and built in the 16th century, however the arcades today are a 19th century alteration.
This painting is a very wide angle view, and it was challenging to fit everything into such a small canvas. My solution was to reconstruct the perspective in my painting to have a subtle curvilinear bend in all directions.
