17 Temple of Aesculapius, Summer Afternoon

$800.00

12x9in, oil on linen mounted to ACM panel

This was the follow along demo from the second day of the Rome workshop. We spent the morning drawing the temple together, and then the afternoon painting it. A great exercise for a class.

Appearance can fool you - not every temple in Rome comes from Antiquity. This temple is a 19th century recreation. The Romanticized ideal still offers a beautiful scene for us painters. Last December I also painted a view of the same temple. Some differences were the time of day, angle, and color scheme - different cloud scattering and season allowed this piece to find its own voice, compared to its predecessor.
