9x12in, oil on linen mounted to Gatorfoam panel
Su_oszowa is known for the way its farmland runs in long, narrow ribbons out from a single village road. Standing at the edge of one of those strips, the land simply flattens out and keeps going.
Rain was moving in from the right, which is the grey curtain at that edge of the painting. The clouds above the horizon were still holding the last of the warm light while the field below had already gone cool and dull. The whole sky sits in a pale, washed range, and the work was in keeping that softness without losing the sense that the light still had a direction.
