9x12in, oil on linen mounted to Gatorfoam panel
Moving on from Switzerland, we headed towards Chamonix to reunite with fellow knights Rolf Hellem and Andrii Kateryniuk, as well as artists Pavel Sokov and Shaoli Huang. We chose to drive south and west, instead of going back through Geneva. On our way there, we realized we would not be far from Simplon Pass, which was the subject of one of my favorite landscape paintings from John Singer Sargent - Simplon Pass, found in the National Gallery, DC.
It appears a lot has changed from his day, and we were unable to find his exact viewpoint, as that would have required hiking through a dense thicket. I wonder if Sargent pushed through that, or if there was a more comfortable trail back then.
