44 Shadow Over the Rye

$700.00

9x12in, oil on linen mounted to Gatorfoam panel

Temperatures started too cool down a little bit, to the point where it was comfortable to breathe as late as 11 or 12 in the morning, if I was standing in the shade. While in France I was worried as it seemed farmers were starting their harvest and mowing a lot of the fields down - perhaps on schedule, or ahead of schedule on account of the heat.

I lucked out with this scene - the winding road through entering the tall rye field had an interesting shadow design from the trees on the other side of the road, in which I was able to comfortably stand. The road itself allowed for an interesting compound curve that led the eye into the painting, with several trees grouped on the distant horizon to stop it.
