12x9in, oil on linen mounted to ACM panel
This was perhaps the most successful demo from this year's workshop in Florence. It seemed that the large trees on the south side of the park were overgrown from previous years. In the early morning, they seemed almost like ink compared to the brilliant colors of the marble. I was inspired by Da Vinci's painting of a lady with and Ermine. And it's almost graphic composition, with a near black background. Funny enough, the iconic background of the painting is a 19th Century paint over, over Da Vinci's original landscape. At the risk of being controversial, I prefer the change.
