This painting was started last year, yet a poor first session and poor weather led it to being abandoned. This year I picked it back up from its hiding place in my grandparents' basement, and a particularly vibrant session brought it new life.
These larger plein airs still remain a challenge, but there was a specific breakthrough moment on this piece that gave me a new confidence. I look forward to continue working on larger scales outdoors, as I believe there is no substitute for the life and color that we can capture when we are painting directly from life.
