English oaks reach an absurd size in these river floodplains, and this one had the kind of mass that makes everything around it look temporary. Behind it the meadow runs flat down to the water.
A tree like this is mostly a problem of restraint. The crown reads as one dark shape from any distance, and the temptation is to break it up with more sunlit clumps than are actually there. I tried to hold it together and spend the detail only where light really did get through. The pink flowers across the foreground were a welcome bit of warmth against all that green.
