This was the one duomo painting from this trip. Coming back to a repeat sitter like the Duomo makes us search for new views and different perspectives. This was the first time I painted the south side entrance to the Cathedral.
The composition was architectural symmetrical and front facing, but the cast shadows helped carry some level of dynamism to the painting. Little moments like the difference between the cream and viridian marble strips in the light and shadows allow even simple paintings of the Duomo like this to come to life.
