The first painting from Poland this summer. Just sat in the middle of a barley field. I've been dreaming of coming back to paint before the harvests for a few years, and after seeing Alexandre Calame's painting Summer in Geneva, I decided this should be the year. I love the expansive fields and open skies here. The only challenge is to find some good compositional elements to lead the eye.
Before this summer I didn't know the difference between barley and wheat, and now I do. What I really need to find is rye, since my favorite Shishkin painting is of a rye field. Some of these pieces may turn into larger paintings in the studio.
